I had I think two different jobs this year. Three if you count interviewing for RC. I took the LSAT one time and got rejected from every graduate program I applied to.
-
I lived in two different apartments, in two different zip codes even though the apartments are less than 5 miles apart. I voted twice (in the NYC mayoral primary and the NYC general) at different locations. I went to SF 3 times this year (for work) and slept in New York, SF, and Chicago.

I coached two seasons of soccer, played three, and helped three asylum seekers (one from Ukraine, one from Algeria, and one from the Ivory Coast) file documents for their asylum claims.

My Garmin says I ran 72 miles this year, which is around one a week. I climbed at least five times this year (at least twice in New York and at least twice in SF). I played pickleball three times. I lost the most weight I’ve lost since college and then gained some of it back.

I saw three plays (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Maybe Happy Ending, and Doomers - twice).
In general, I felt 2025 was more stable. I'm proud of myself for not fucking that up. I have historically: I get bored and need some motion (why I left Peloton in 2024) or because I feel my situation is precarious and I need to diversify (working at Twitter and the Post at the same time, generally having one foot out). I'm proud of being stable, and still finding things to improve and be interested in.
I don't think I'm going to set New Years Resolutions this year. The ones from last year are a kind of dizzying hodgepodge of the very quantified and tactical (maintain my crossword streak, have a bunch of commits on Github, read 10 books, try 100 restaurants, write 1-3 posts, track my meditation sessions) with two big rocks. I missed on almost all counts.
I would like to keep writing both words and code, being less overheated, reading and running, and trying new things. I would like these things to be a part of my life, and I think quantification can be helpful (provided there is a sticky mechanism to track — there was not this past year). I know that sounds like an excuse to be more vibes-based and less intentional or specific, but I think the better question is, what do I want for myself by this time next year? What is possible in the next year?
Again, I like the stability. I would like to continue it. I have specific things (friend-wise, work-wise, health-wise) that I want by April, when I'll be running a half-marathon, which felt like a natural reflection point. I don't want many big life shifts in the next few months, but I would like to have options.
